The Conseil patronal de l’environnement du Québec (CPEQ) is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 by companies concerned with environmental protection.
The Conseil patronal de l’environnement du Québec groups together key industry and business sectors, as well as sectoral business associations that are truly concerned with the potential impacts of their activities on the environment and committed to sustainable development. CPEQ's role is not only to act as a mouthpiece for Quebec companies on issues related to the environment and sustainable development. In fact, CPEQ also is dedicated to remaining the leading source of information for its members with regard to environmental issues and sustainable development, while acting as a rallying agent able to raise awareness and enlighten decision-making processes. The CPEQ is active on the provincial, national and international scene. The CPEQ's members generate sales in the billions of dollars and contribute to the creation of several thousands of jobs.
Environmental protection and the integration of the concept of sustainable development into corporate activities have become a major concern for society. Over the years, whether by recognizing the necessity of hiring environment directors, adopting environmental policies, integrating Environmental Management Systems, reviewing operational procedures or complying with environmental regulations, Quebec companies have had no other choice but to embrace the green movement.
As a consequence, these companies now have to develop a holistic approach to the concept of sustainable development in order to truly distinguish themselves as responsible market and social leaders. In this regard, there is an expectation that companies will adopt a "proactive" approach involving for example: alternative energy innovations, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, energy efficiency programs, responsible supply chains, improved workplace quality of life or corporate community involvement.
The Conseil patronal de l’environnement du Québec (CPEQ) is the unified voice of Quebec companies on matters linked to the environment and sustainable development. It acts as a green panel through which corporate members may address their own interests and express general concerns. The CPEQ then serves as a unique catalyst for the coordination of an environmentally friendly advocate.
